math in the news

Earlier in the year, I tried to explain continuity using a progression of leaders.  Roughly speaking, we might say that a leader offers some continuity if he or she works to not abandon good things in the transition from the previous administration and to the next.  The first leader is under no expectation to transition "from" anything, so we would only judge their continuity based on their relationship with the next leader.  Likewise, the final leader of a progression has no option to interact with a successor, so we judge their continuity only on their relationship with their predecessor.  Anyway, I'm glad to see BBC teaching people some calculus.
